How to do a Ford Sync Master Reset

Ford and Microsoft joined forces to provide a first-class experience for drivers via Ford Sync. The enhanced capabilities let drivers receive hands-free calls and audible text messages, as well as easy voice access to maps, music, and more. An added bonus: if you get into an accident that triggers airbags, the vehicle automatically notifies 911.

However, from time-to-time, we all experience issues with our SYNC System! It's just how technology works, right? Luckily, performing a Master Reset can help alleviate operational issues you might be experiencing with SYNC. When you "pair" your phone to your Ford vehicle, another layer of technological "do's and don'ts" gets thrown into the mix. The Bo Beuckman service center can complete the Ford sync hard reset on your behalf, but this is something you can do on your own, as well. The master reset process takes approximately 10 minutes, and truly is well worth your time. Though it may seem overwhelming, keep breathing...the answers lie below!

What Does a Ford Sync Master Reset Accomplish

A Master Reset completely erases all information stored on your SYNC System, but NEVER, NEVER, NEVER from your paired phone. A Master Reset will remove phone book info, call history, text messages, paired devices, saved addresses and navigation history on your SYNC System ONLY. Once you "re-pair" your phone back to the system, almost all information is restored excluding previously navigated or stored destinations.

How to Know When It's Time for a Ford Sync Master Reset

Did You Get a NEW Phone? A Master Reset is Best Practice but Not Necessary

Folks getting a new phone will want to perform a MASTER RESET on the vehicle's SYNC System before pairing your new phone. Although not a necessary evil, Ford recommends it as a "Best Practice." After all, why would you want your new phone paired to a "dirty" SYNC system?

Recently UPDATE Your Phone? A Ford Sync Master Reset is Necessary

Has your phone had an update recently? If so, it is a necessary evil and you MUST remember to perform the MASTER RESET. A Master Reset to SYNC cleans out stored phone(s) and resets the system to factory defaults. This leaves you with a blank canvas, and ready to pair with your up-to-date phone!
